If your custom kitchen cabinetry looks outdated, tired, or does not harmonise, it can impact the functionality and ambience of your kitchen.
It is vital to select cabinetry prudently as it will lend practicality for storage, add convenience and transform the entire ambience of your kitchen. And joinery can set the character of your kitchen. Thus, research to find out the most suitable material and finish for your kitchen cabinets. Besides, kitchen cabinetry comprises a substantial part of your kitchen renovation budget, so it is a very crucial decision, which you need to investigate in detail with your kitchen designer expert.
Cabinetry Options
Timber Cabinetry
- You will often see timber cabinetry built using American oak or Tasmanian timber in a typical classic, country-style kitchen.
- If you want to keep the costs down or have a tight budget, then you can limit using timber in just a few features, such as shelving and benchtop, or any one of them because solid timber cabinetry is pricey.
How to care for your timber cabinetry?
- Take warm water and vinegar in the ratio of 1:1 (i.e. half cup of warm water and half cup of vinegar), mix it and pour the mix into a spray bottle.
- Now, spray it onto the cabinets and let it remain there for a couple of minutes, then using a soft cloth, wipe it away, and you get cleaner cabinets.
2 Pack Polyurethane
- It is a method and paint solution applied to cabinetry. Various surface finishes are available in the market today – for instance, satin, semi-gloss, high gloss, and matt.
- With two-pack polyurethane, you can choose any custom colour. However, it may be susceptible to chipping.
How to care for the surface?
- Take a clean microfiber cloth and wipe over the surface tenderly. If you want to deep clean, use a clean microfiber cloth and warm soapy water.
- Dip the microfiber cloth into the warm soapy water, remove the extra water from the microfiber cloth after twisting around and gently wipe over the surface.
- Do not use abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.
Vinyl-Wrap Cabinetry
- A slim vinyl-sheet vacuum-sealed onto Medium Density Fibreboard.
- It is refined and glossy and looks elegant and modern. Vinyl-wrap is highly durable, endures everyday wear, and is more viable than a two-pack.
- Doors with vinyl wrap have no edges, so they provide a seamless look.
How to Care for Vinyl-Wrap Surface?
- Make some warm water and mix it with few drops of liquid soap. Take a soft moist cloth or sponge and dip it in the warm soapy water solution, remove and twist cloth or sponge to remove extra water, then wipe the vinyl-wrap surface and leave it to air dry.
- Never use chemical cleaners because they may damage the vinyl.
Timber Veneer
- Thin timber slices are placed on the boards and sealed with a clear two-pack.
- Timber veneer provides the warmth and elegance of timber at an affordable price point.
- High-impact resistant ABS edging would not peel or chip. Thus, ensure installing high-impact resistant ABS edging.
How to Care for Timber Veneer?
Any spills need to be cleaned at the earliest with a moist cloth because moisture might damage the coating.
Melamine Cabinets
- Melamine is also known as laminate, and it is often used for door, drawer, and cabinet fronts. It is available in an array of textures, colours, and wood grains.
- Melamine is made from resin-infused decorative paper and bonded onto Medium Density Fibreboard or Particleboard.
- Melamine cabinets are budget-friendly, still offer decent moisture and scratch resistance.
- Durable and offers quality finish, Melamine cabinets are effortless to clean and maintain.
How to Care for Melamine Cabinets?
- Using a soft, moist cloth and warm soapy water, wipe clean the melamine cabinets.
- Next, use a soft cloth and a streak-free cleaner and wipe off the melamine cabinets.
- Never apply cleaning products directly onto the cabinet surface. Cleaning products should be applied to the cloth first, and then use the soft cloth to wipe clean the cabinet surface.
- Don’t use abrasive cleaning products.
Cabinetry Door Styles
In a small or luxury kitchen design, cabinetry door style stands out from the rest of the interiors. Thus, the cabinetry door style must harmonise the ambience of your kitchen and your entire home.
- Shaker-style doors are an elementary yet ageless design that suits most kitchen interiors and are a cabinetry classic.
- Glass doors can ensure that the contents of the cabinets are visible, which offers excellent convenience and utility. Choose from transparent, textured, or frosted glass, and it can bestow an intriguing visual element to your kitchen.
- Flat-panel doors are modest yet elegant and suit a contemporary or modern kitchen.
